One of my college roomates invited us to join his family in a cabin outside of Boone and we had such a great time. It was just what we needed. We drove 11 hours from NYC to Boone. I was a little amazed at how accessible the East coast is by car. Growing up in Oklahoma, 11 hours on the road gets you somewhere in a bordering state. We went through about 7 states in that amount of time out here. Sam did great on his first road trip.

Here he is working on one of his favorite past-times... mastering the tongue.

Sam made new friends. This is Sam with Henna.
Andy and Monty laughed a lot.
We had a splendid talent show on our last night together. Poetry, acrobatics, dance, visual art, music - you name it we had it. Here is Manon drawing a beautiful picture with Uncle Awesome singing in the background.
Germaine and Henna singing "The Wheels on the Bus".
And here's Judah showing off his mad acrobatic skills. We especially enjoyed hearing Judah call his new found friend... "Baby Ham".
Some of the other highlights of the trip included a helathy dose of quiet, alone time, trout "fishing" (if you call casting a line in a stocked pond fishing), hiking around Grandfather Mountain, eating lots of s'mores, sitting by many fires, hot tub, lots of great conversations ranging in silliness and depth, beautiful scenery, and playing euchre. Needless to say we had a great time and look forward to future vaca-time!
